Individual opinions have made the world more informed, but more chaotic as well. How often do you find two or more people engaged over virtual wars on Twitter or Facebook? Somehow, our expressions have become rigid too.
The problem is probably something else. While we crib for right of opinion, we are often not okay with somebody else differing from what we believe.
Actress Anushka Sharma was recently speaking at the India Today conclave, and she spoke on point about opinionated conflicts. (Also Read: When Virat Kohli’s name made Anushka Sharma blush…)
“I think the mindset needs to change… It’s okay for me to have an opinion which might differ from somebody else’s and we both should be entitled to our opinion, have the security and courage to live with it rather than imposing what I think is correct or true, on anybody else,” Anushka said.
“If you’re secure enough, your beliefs won’t shake. If I believe in something, my belief won’t shake because I have the security. Any information that is around us, be it books, movies, TV, it does something to you. That’s one way we contribute. We make people see things that they probably don’t know of and show them people who are like them or can inspire them,” she added.
Anushka is vocal about issues that are comfortably overlooked by almost everyone else. Recently, her character from ‘Sultan’ was criticised for apparently being regressive. Anushka came up with a fitting answer, stating that the freedom to choose motherhood over work (or vice versa), solely belonged to the concerned woman and the choice should be respected, because that’s what defines true freedom, the freedom of choice.
On the professional front, she will be next seen in ‘Phillauri’ with Diljit Dosanjh. It hits the screens on 24th March.
