Apurva Asrani calls out the double standard of people’s reaction towards Milind Soman & Poonam Pandey’s nudes

Writer-editor Apurva Asrani recently pointed out how people react differently towards men and women’s nudes. Highlighting the people’s double standards, Apurva cited the recent example of the reactions Milind Soman and Poonam Pandey’s nudes received recently.

Yesterday a complaint was filed against Poonam Pandey for shooting an obscene video in Goa. Whereas when Milind posted his picture of running naked on a Goa beach, he was lauded for his great physique and looks by the netizens.

Calling out people’s double standard, Apurva took to his Twitter handle and sharing a picture of both Poonam and Milind, he wrote, “#PoonamPandey & #MilindSoman both stripped down to their birthday suits in #Goa recently. Pandey partly, Soman completely. Pandey is in legal trouble–for obscenity. Soman is being lauded for his fit body at age 55. I guess we are kinder to our nude men than to our nude women.(sic)”

For the unversed, Milind had posted his nude picture on the occasion of his 55th birthday. He had simply captioned it as, “Happy birthday to me”. The picture was captured by Milind’s wife Ankita Konwar.

Whereas Poonam landed in legal trouble as according to an ANI report, an FIR has been filed against an unknown person at Canacona Police station in Goa for shooting a vulgar video featuring her. The offence has been registered under the Indian Penal Code. Also, women’s wing of Goa Forward Party has filed a complaint against Poonam for shooting obscene video at Chapoli Dam.

According to a report in News 18, Deputy superintendent of police Nelson Albuquerque said, “A case was registered against Pandey after she was spotted in the video which has gone viral. She has been booked for obscene gestures, trespassing on the government property, and for shooting and distributing an indecent video.”

Apurva has rightly called out the sexism which is clearly evident when you compare both these incidents. What are your views on this? Do let us know.
