Actor Arjan Bajwa played Shahid Kapoor‘s elder brother in ‘Kabir Singh’. He was a protective brother who saved Kabir (Shahid Kapoor) in all the situations be it wrong, right, good or bad. At times he also reprimanded Kabir when he was wrong.
We spoke to Arjan regarding the controversy that ‘Kabir Singh’ got embroiled in. He shared his views saying, “Very few people wanted to put the film in a negative way. Majority of the people loved the film and that’s why it has done well at the box-office. Some people who had some kind of issues will have issues with many other films and pinpoint something wrong or the other. That’s not how one should be looking at films. If you are a critic and dissecting a project, you don’t have to unnecessarily go so deep into it and start putting in a negative way. With this, you are also dissecting someone’s hard work.”
‘Kabir Singh’ opened with good numbers and even crossed Rs 200 crore but the debate continued. Some hailed Shahid’s portrayal of a self-destructive lover, while many were upset specially with director Sandeep Reddy Vanga for glorifying ‘toxic masculinity’ and ‘misogyny’ in the movie.
Talking about it, the ‘Fashion’ actor said, “It is not right to raise your hands on women. In ‘Kabir Singh’, we see Kiara Advani’s character slaps Shahid Kapoor first and then later if he slaps her, that shouldn’t put the film in a misogynist kind of a subject. That is a very one-sided and small way of approaching something. In an intense love story, if there are intense moments between two lovers, I don’t think we need to talk bad about the film.”

Arjan also opened up on Sandeep Reddy’s comment “If you can’t slap, if you can’t touch your woman wherever you want, I don’t see emotion” (This comment got him into controversy). “He didn’t glorify the character. He meant that physical freedom with each other is there in that kind of comfort. I am not advocating the whole idea. I don’t think we should delve too much into it. Look it as a story,” said the actor.
Referring to Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh’s ‘Gully Boy’, he said, “Why aren’t people talking about Alia’s character going and breaking the bottle on Kalki’s head and Ranveer’s father abusing and slapping his mother?”
On the work front, Arjan is making his digital debut with the web series ‘State of Siege: 26/11’ that will be streaming on ZEE5 from March 20.
