Time and again, Arjun Kapoor has expressed his love for his late mother Mona Kapoor. She passed away after battling cancer, just 45 days before Arjun’s debut, Ishaqzaade, released. As the movie turned 10 recently, we sat with Arjun for a conversation where he opened up about his struggles, tough times, battling criticism, being financially independent now, his mother and a lot more. He also said that he has fascinating life both personally and professionally.
Arjun said that his mother would have been really very happy to see his debut film had she been alive. The Bhoot Police actor said, “I think woh pehli picture dekh leti toh khus ho jati. Bas utna hi kafi tha unke liye. She had sacrificed so much to put me in a position where I can be independent.”
He added, “I think the quest when you are part of this profession by being somebody’s son or daughter, it’s about just doing well for yourself and making your family aware that you can take care of yourself. I think that’s a big victory. I think any parent wants their child, regardless whether they takeover their business or do something else, they should be ok. And, it would have been nice for my mother to know that he is doing ok and that’s what parents want.”

Kapoor thinks his biggest achievement is to be financially independent today. “I have never taken anything from my father since I have become an actor. Even before that, it was very limited to what was the necessities. My mother took care of us very well. She brought us up very well. My father as present as he could be was. It’s a very special thing for me to be today in a position where I can wake up and say ‘no’ to a film,” he said.
Arjun further said, “I think my mother would be proud of the fact that I am so independent that I can afford to not go to work for a day and that is very empowering. She would have been happy to know that at 36 I have sorted a lot of my demons out. But, I think for her Ishaqzaade would have been enough just to know that she has brought me up well and I will be okay.”
