Arjun Kapoor’s sister Anshula Kapoor wants sanitary napkins to be tax-free

Twitter has become quite instrumental as and when it comes to important social movements being initiated. The latest trending hashtag on twitter to draw our eyes was #LahuKaLagaan’.

Women across the country spoke up how crucial is it for women to have easy access to sanitary pads. One of them was actor Arjun Kapoor‘s sister Anshula Kapoor, who urged Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to make them tax-free.

“@arunjaitleyplsmake sanitary napkins tax-free under GST – they should be classified as an essential item & not a luxury! #LahuKaLagaan,” Anshula tweeted. (Also Read: Arjun Kapoor on alleged ex-Sonakshi Sinha: I am still really fond of her as an individual)

“Sir, @arunjaitley sanitary napkins shouldn’t be a luxury. Why should women be taxed to bleed when we have no control over it? #LahukaLagaan,” she also wrote.

The campaign was also supported by Aditi Rao Hydari and Swara Bhaskar among others from Bollywood.

Filmmaker R Balki’s ‘Padman’ starring Akshay Kumar in the lead is also about a man who invented India’s first machine to produce low-cost pads.
