Rakhi Sawant

A local court in Ludhiana, Punjab issued an arrest warrant against actress Rakhi Sawant based on a police complaint filed against her for making derogatory remarks on Rishi Valmiki, who according to mythology, wrote the Hindu epic Ramayana. Rakhi made the remarks last year, during a show on a private television channel.

The warrant claims that Rakhi has hurt the sentiments of Valmiki community.

“By doing so she has hurt the religious sentiments of a large number of his followers,” the police complaint read. (Also Read: Rakhi Sawant uses the weirdest technique to cure her eye injury and it’s GROSS!)

Rakhi didn’t appear before the court on March 9 for the case’ hearing, despite repeated summons being issued to her.

The complaint was filed by Pawan Hans, president, Valmiki Jagriti Sabha, Punjab; and was registered at the Rama Mandi police station.

Last year in July, the members of the community burned an effigy of Rakhi, protesting her disrespectful comments. They also halted the Delhi-Amritsar Shatabdi Express, demanding immediate actions against the actress.

“A two-member team of the Ludhiana police has left for Mumbai with the arrest warrant,” a police official said.

The next date of hearing is April 10.
