During its filming stage, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmavati’ witnessed massive ruckus on the sets. In Jaipur, an organisation named Rajput Karni Sena vandalised the sets, accusing Bhansali of distorting historical facts. He himself faced physical assault as well, and it took us quite some time to digest that artistes here are not really free from the governance of religious extremists.
Moving on, it has happened again. Karan K, an artiste who created a breathtakingly beautiful rangoli imitating Deepika Padukone’s look in the period drama, claimed his work was destroyed by a group of people, who screamed ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and ruined it. The incident took place in Surat, Gujarat. (Also See: Here’s what went behind the making of jewellery of ‘Padmavati’)
“#padmavati Rangoli controversy! A crowd of 100 people cried JAY SRI RAM and rubbed out my48hrs’ intense work!,” [sic] he wrote.

If the incident actually took place the way it is narrated, then it is downright condemnable.
‘Padmavati’, since its inception, has been attracting controversy. Apart from debates of historical accuracy, there were also rumours of actors Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh having silent ego clashes on the sets.
The film, also starring Aditi Rao Hydari, releases on December 1.
