One of the most anticipated films of 2017 is Arjun Rampal’s ‘Daddy’ which is a biopic on the underworld gangster Arun Gawli. Fondly known as Daddy, Arun Gawli is currently locked up in Nagpur jail serving his jail term for the murder of Shiv Sena leader Kamlakar Jamsandekar. He was supposed to be out on parole to attend the premiere of the film, but going by the recent reports, the gangster-turned-politician has been denied the same.
A source has informed Mid-Day about it and has cited that the authorities do not want to repeat the same mistake that they had committed when Sanjay Dutt was in prison. With Sanjay Dutt moving in and out of jail on furlough number of times during his term, a lot of people were of an opinion that just because he is a celebrity, he is being granted leaves on recurring basis.
Source says, “He (Arun Gawli) had asked for his annual parole for Ganpati festivities. He had hoped to watch the film along with his family during this time. But the authorities are uncomfortable with the idea of granting him parole at such a time. They fear that if he is used in the film’s promotions, it will reflect badly on them. Since Sanjay Dutt’s furlough had come under such scrutiny, they don’t want to repeat a similar mistake.”
‘Daddy’ which was earlier supposed to July 21 was pushed to September 8 on request of Arun Gawli’s daughter Geeta. She wanted her father to be able to attend the premiere, but now, it seems a little difficult. (Also Check: ‘Daddy’ dialogue promo 3 has Arjun fighting for love)
