Biopics are the current trend which our Bollywood filmmakers are obsessed with. In the last three-four years, we have seen biopics made on several sportspeople, actors and politicians. While some were even based on the life of ordinary men who achieved extraordinary feats. Last year, Indian sprinter Dutee Chand bagged silver in women’s 100m at the Jakarta Asian Games. It was India’s first medal in this event since 1998.
The athlete recently grabbed headlines when she came out as gay. Dutee was widely appreciated for her courage and for sharing her story. She is India’s first ever openly gay athlete. Her fascinating and inspiring story is indeed worth translating on the celluloid. So naturally, Dutee has been receiving several offers from filmmakers to make her biopic. Though nothing is finalised yet, Dutee has expressed interest in having Kangana Ranaut to star in her biopic.
In a recent interview with Bombay Times, Dutee revealed that actor Anil Kapoor and filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra have reached out to her for the biopic. “I have got requests from so many filmmakers who are keen to make my biopic, but I haven’t given the nod yet. Apart from Anil Kapoor and Rakeysh Mehra, a lot of actors and actresses have independently reached out. With the number of requests coming my way, lagta hai meri story bahut hit hogi(I guess my story would a big hit).”
Dutee went on to add that while finalising the actress is the job of the filmmakers but she would like to see either Priyanka Chopra or Kangana Ranaut in her biopic. Revealing the reason behind picking these two actresses, Dutee said that she loved Priyanka’s performance in ‘Mary Kom’ and she personally likes Kangana as an actress.
Interestingly when Kangana was informed about Dutee’s wish, the actress replied, “That’s very kind of Duteeji. She is the epitome of courage and strength and she has not only set a benchmark in her professional life, but the kind of courage she has displayed in her personal life is also commendable. I am humbled that she feels I am worthy of playing her.”
We all have already seen Kangana play an athlete in ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’, so perhaps she would be the best choice for Dutee Chand’s biopic. What do you guys think? Do let us know your views.
