Ayushmann Khurrana starrer ‘Dream Girl’ has been in news since its announcement. Ayushmann who is known for doing out-of-the-box characters is coming with yet another quirky character. The trailer has got a positive response from his fans.
But now the movie has been accused of plagiarism by a director named Janak Toprani. As per Toprani his movie ‘Call For Fun’ that was released in 2017, bears resemblance to ‘Dream Girl’. As per a report in Mid-Day, Toprani has claimed that he had approached Balaji with his script on two occasions but was turned down. He said, “After they let go of the project, I got a financier and [made] the movie last year,” as Ekta Kapoor was not part of the discussion which he had with the production.
He was told about the resemblance by one of his friend’s. “After the trailer released, we took a week to consult a few lawyers. Then, I tried to call Nachiket Pantvaidya [CEO, Balaji] but he did not answer my call,” said the director. He further said, “If Dream Girl is similar to my film, I will file a legal case. I want credit as the writer and royalty rights.”
When the portal reached ‘Dream Girl’ writer-director Raaj Shaandilyaa he said, “The idea belongs to me and my co-writer since 2010. We have also registered it. If the concerned director’s film was not commercially successful, why would anybody replicate his idea?”
‘Dream Girl’ is slated to hit the screens on September 13.
