Year 2018 was a great year for director Amit Sharma who helmed ‘Badhaai Ho’ starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Sanya Malhotra, Neena Gupta and Gajraj Rao. The content of the movie was very unconventional. It was something that was never explored in Bollywood. The movie dealt with the pregnancy of a middle-aged couple (Ayushmann’s on-screen parents) with a message. The movie was well received by the audiences as well as critics and also did well at the box office.
Talking about content and stardom, the director told Mumbai Mirror that content is not taking over the concept of stardom. He said, “Content and stardom are not here to replace each other but to co-exist and complement each other. It would be magical to have a big star in a content-driven film.”
On his first film ‘Tevar’s failure, Amit said that ‘Tevar’ was a special film, as it was appreciated by industry insiders. “I was noticed, and it gave me a platform to direct my next film. I have loved cinema too much for a failure to let me down,” added Amit.
After the success of ‘Badhaai Ho’, Amit is all geared up for his next that is a biopic on legendary football coach Syed Abdul Rahim. It has Ajay Devgn in the lead. While talking about the pressure of working with a big star like Ajay, Amit said that there is an obvious pressure but he looks at it differently. “He (Ajay) has a tremendous fan-following and working with a superstar will prove to be an advantage to the film,” said the director.
