Legendary Indian music composer and singer Bappi Lahiri is no more The nation today woke up to the shocking news of Bappi Lahiri’s demise today. Lahiri, who became the pioneer of disco breathed his last at Mumbai’s CritiCare Hospital. He was 69.

The maestro apparently was not keeping well for quite some time now. Dr Deepak Namjoshi, director of the hospital, told PTI, “Lahiri had been admitted to the hospital for a month and was discharged on Monday. But his health deteriorated on Tuesday and his family called for a doctor to visit their home. He was brought to the hospital. He had multiple health issues. He died due to OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) shortly before midnight.”

Bappi da, as he’s fondly called, revolutionised disco music in the 80s and 90s and was also referred to as the Disco King. His songs like Disco Dancer, Main Nachu, Yaad Aa Raha Hai, Jimmy Jimmy, Aaj Rapat Jaaye and others have built careers of several top stars. Some of his notable work includes films like Disco Dancer, Sharaabi, Namak Halaal, Dance Dance, Himmatwala and others. His last song was Bhankas for Tiger Shroff – Shraddha Kapoor starrer Baaghi 3.

Bappida’s last on-screen appearance was a few months ago when he graced Salman Khan’s show Bigg Boss 15 as a guest. But while he is no more with us, his legacy will live on through his music. The industry lost a gem today. Our deepest condolences to the family.
