Bappi Lahiri breathed his last on February 15 in Mumbai. He died of obstructive sleep apnea. He was 69. The legendary singer was cremated on February 17 at Vile Parle crematorium in Mumbai. Reportedly, on Thursday, the ashes of the Disco King has been immersed in the river Hooghly, a distributary of the Ganges.
Bappi Lahiri’s son Bappa Lahiri, wife Chitrani and daughter Rema Lahiri took the ashes to the sacred river 16 days after the Bollywood pop-music icon left for the heavenly abode. They went on a boat from Kolkata’s Outram Ghat and scattered it in the waters of the the river.
Bappa Lahiri told India Today, “My grandparent’s last rites were also done here. He was the son of Bengal. We are proud to be Bengali. We are organising his last rites here with the love of you all. Many people have come here to receive us. It was my first visit here without my father’s presence in reality.” He also said that his father wanted his ashes to be immersed in Kolkata just like his parents.

Bappi Lahiri was born on November 27, 1952 to Bengali classical singers Aparesh and Bansuri Lahiri. He had lent his voice in many Hindi movies that went on to become chartbusters. In fact, he was popular for his disco numbers.
The song I am a Disco Dancer from Mithun Chakraborty starrer Disco Dancer was one of the cult songs of the 80s and still a hit number.
Bappi Da also crooned romantic songs and also sang Bengali numbers.
