The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sent a letter to YouTube, seeking the removal of videos featuring Ranveer Allahbadia’s obscene remarks on the YouTube show, ‘India’s Got Latent.’ This decision comes after a complaint was filed by Yogendra Singh Thakur, alleging that the show contained highly objectionable, inappropriate, and obscene remarks about Indian society.

NHRC steps in ‘Beer Biceps’ Ranveer Allahbadia obscene remarks case

In its letter, the NHRC stated that it had accessed certain links indicating that a recent episode of the show featured YouTubers making vulgar and explicit statements concerning women and children. The commission expressed concern about the availability of this content on widely accessible platforms. It includes YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook. These platforms pose a grave threat to the safety, dignity, and mental well-being of children, including women.

“The complaint highlights concerns regarding the show’s propagation of negativity, discriminatory perspectives, religious and cultural intolerance, and disrespectful and obscene ideologies, particularly towards women and children. It is further alleged that, under the guise of freedom of speech, the show disseminates obscene and vulgar content along with misleading messages, thereby fostering a corrupt mindset in society,” Priyank Kanoongoo, NHRC member said.

Ranveer Allahbadia, also known as Beer Biceps, had commented on a recent episode of India’s Got Latent that sparked controversy. He posed a question to a contestant that many social media users found offensive. He asked if they would rather watch their parents have sex for the rest of their lives or join in once and stop it forever. Several other YouTubers Samay Raina, Apoorva Mukhija (also known as The Rebel Kid), and Ashish Chanchlani were present on the show. They were also named in the complaint for allegedly using abusive language on the show.

Ranveer’s apology

As the comments drew backlash on social media, Ranveer apologized for his remarks. He stated that comedy was not his forte and that the comment was inappropriate and not even funny. He expressed regret for his lapse in judgment and acknowledged that the podcast is watched by people of all ages. It makes it a responsibility he should not have taken lightly.

Ranveer’s apology video was well-received by many fans. Some even praise him for owning up to his mistakes and taking responsibility for his actions. However, the NHRC’s decision to ask for the videos to be removed underscores the importance of maintaining a respectful and safe environment for viewers, particularly children and vulnerable groups.
