Even though Salman Khan made his debut with Biwi Ho To Aisi, his performance in Sooraj Barjatya’s Maine Pyar Kiya got him fame. As the romantic drama remains cult classic, several anecdotes surface about it even today. Earlier, reports were rife that Piyush Mishra was considered for Salman Khan’s role in Maine Pyar Kiya. However, he has clarified what happened and why he didn’t encash the opportunity.
Piyush Mishra on Maine Pyar Kiya being offered to him instead of Salman
Reflecting on his past statement, Piyush clarified he had not officially signed the film and was only considered for the part. “But it wasn’t that I had become a star or I had landed that part. It was an early discussion, and Sooraj Barjatya’s father majorly considered me. He had come to meet me; he didn’t cast me as such. I was in third year when this had happened. It wasn’t that big a deal at all, I don’t know why it was blown out of proportion, that I was just on the brink of becoming a star but then couldn’t. Arey baba nahi yaar.“
He added, “A lot of things would have happened, I would’ve had to come to Mumbai, give an audition and then would’ve been offered the role. Even then, I am certain a lot of other people would have also been in contention for the part”.
Piyush also added how people insisted him to encash on this news as it would be helpful. “They wanted me to claim the role was taken away from me. But that isn’t true. I went on to work a lot after that. If by chance I had landed the opportunity, I would have bagged that big a chance prematurely, at an age when I was perhaps not ready mentally, physically or emotionally. I was a 26-year-old boy then, I could not have handled the success. Mera dimaag ud jaata. I would not have been to handle that kind of stardom, and I accept it. I was not ready for it, so it is good this didn’t happen with me,” he added.
On the work front, Piyush Mishra is gearing up for the release of Illegal 3. The series also stars Neha Sharma and Akshay Oberoi in pivotal roles.
