Bellbottom: Producer Nikkhil Advani reveals Akshay Kumar starrer being considered for OTT release

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic-induced lockdown, theatres were shut down, due to which the filmmakers took the route of direct OTT release last year. Films like Sadak, Coolie No. 1, Laxmii among others have released on OTT giants. This year too due to the second wave of the pandemic, the release dates of many movies like Chehre, Satyameva Jayate 2, Sooryavanshi, and others are postponed. The makers of these movies want to have a theatrical release of their movies.

Well, there were reports that makers of Akshay Kumar starrer Bellbottom are planning to release the spy thriller on OTT. But the producers Nikkil Advani and Pooja Entertainment had earlier denied such plans of opting for the digital release. It was slated to release in theatres on May 28.

Given the current Covid-19 pandemic crisis, Bellbottom might have a digital release as per a report in Bollywood Hungama. The report states that the film is now being sold to Disney+ Hotstar for an early digital premiere. Producer Nikkhil Advani told, “I believe it is being considered. But the final monetizing lies with Pooja Entertainment.”

If the movie releases on Disney-Hotstar’s, then it will be the second movie of Akshay Kumar after Laxmii on the streaming giant. Laxmii premiered in November 2020 and it didn’t receive positive reviews.

The espionage film is set in the 80s and the first look of Akshay Kumar had already got his fans excited. The film also stars Vaani Kapoor, Huma Qureshi, Lara Dutta and Adil Hussain in lead roles. Bellbottom is directed by Ranjit M Tewari.
