‘The Last Lear’, released in 2007, was Amitabh Bachchan’s first film in Enhglish. On its tenth anniversary, Bachchan fondly remembered late director Rituparno Ghosh, who had made this happen.
He took to Twitter and wrote, “10 years of ‘The Last Lear’ .. my first film in English made by the iconic Ritu Porno Ghosh .. he left us too soon”. (Also Read:

‘The Last Lear’ revolved around an aged actor who is having much conflicts with the changing face of cinema but is constantly being persuaded by a young filmmaker to return to acting. The film had won that’s year National Film Award in ‘Best Feature Film in English’ category.
The film also remains Rituparno’s second last film (‘Memories in March’ being the last one) in English, before he took his last breathe in 2013 at the age of 49.
The film also came during a phase when Rituparno was fighting plenty of crisis of his own; incluing that of a woman’s soul trapped in a man’s body that was desperately seeking its own free identity. Uncalled social judgments and the taxing process of sex-change took their toll on the filmmaker’s physical and psychological health as well.
