Zahan Kapoor hails from the Kapoor family and recently garnered attention for his breakout performance in the web series Black Warrant. He candidly discussed various aspects of his journey in the industry. It includes the impact of his lineage, the challenges of his debut film Faraaz, and his thoughts on the current trend of violence in OTT content.
Zahan Kapoor focuses on craft over fame
As reported by HT, Zahan Kapoor emphasizes that his family’s legacy has instilled in him a strong work ethic. He stated, “It has made me focus deeply on my work and craft above all else because I am not here to chase fame and recognition. Those two things are very attractive, but they are by-products.”
As the grandson of the late actor Shashi Kapoor, Zahan expresses his understanding that success is not solely defined by fame, “Having seen these things, I understand that fame and success and glamour is not the be-all and end-all. It requires a deep work ethic, dedication, persistence, and perseverance. I have been lucky enough to observe these values in my family.”
Zahan reflects on Faraaz
Zahan’s debut came with Faraaz in 2022, which unfortunately did not achieve the expected success. He reflects on this experience, “Everybody wants to make a good film, a successful film. And nobody sets out to make one that doesn’t work. Failure should not really go to your heart where it disappoints you. Faraaz is considered a failure by many, which I do not consider it at all. I think it’s successful in its intention.”
Despite the film not making a significant impact, he maintains a positive outlook. He does not let it dampen his spirits regarding his career.
Zahan on the success of Black Warrant
Zahan is pleased with the reception of Black Warrant. He appreciates the creators’ emphasis on emotional depth over the typical violence often seen in OTT content. He remarked, “If we look at things in terms of what is available on OTT, there is definitely a trend to exaggerate and use violence as the point of attraction. But whether a story requires it or not largely comes down to the maker and their choice and sensibilities.”
Zahan values the creators’ decision to focus on emotional storytelling, emphasizing that different narratives may call for different approaches. His insights reflect a thoughtful perspective on his craft and the industry at large.
