Blackbuck Poaching Case: More trouble for Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre and Tabu?

The Rajasthan government has decided to file an application in the High Court against the acquittal of Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Neelam Kothari, Tabu and Dushyant Singh (a resident of Jodhpur) in the infamous blackbuck poaching case. The actors were acquitted due to lack of evidence.

This comes nearly 5 months after the four actors were acquitted while superstar Salman Khan was found guilty of killing 2 blackbucks during the shooting of ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’. The ‘Dabangg’ Khan was sentenced to a 5-year jail term and a fine of Rs. 10, 000 under Section 9/51 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act was levied. He was granted bail by a Sessions court after spending two nights in jail.

Additional advocate general SK Vyas told The Indian Express, “A few days back, we received the sanction from the state government to appeal against the acquittal of Khan, Tabu, Neelam, Bendre and Singh. After the verdict, the public prosecutor of the trial court had given his opinion to the law department whether an appeal should be filed.”

He further added that the appeal against the acquittal will be filed at the Rajasthan High Court. “The law department and the state government considered all the facts and they have given sanction for filing an appeal. The sanction came recently and we will be filing the appeal at the Rajasthan High Court,” said Vyas.

Salman Khan, who was asked to seek permission from the court each time he traveled abroad, had moved an application seeking permanent exemption from permission every time he has to leave the country. On September 6, a Jodhpur court gave him the permission.
