Kaveri Kapur teams up with father Shekhar Kapur for Masoom 2; says, “Nepotism exists in every field”

Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur and actor Suchitra Krishnamoorthi’s daughter, Kaveri Kapur, has officially stepped into the entertainment industry. The rising star recently made her Bollywood debut in Kunal Kohli’s romantic drama. Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story, streaming on JioHotstar. She starred opposite Amrish Puri’s grandson, Vardhaan Puri. Now, Kaveri is gearing up for an exciting new project—her father Shekhar Kapur’s highly anticipated Masoom 2.

In an exclusive interview with India Today Digital. The 24-year-old expressed her excitement about working with her father and industry veterans like Shabana Azmi and Naseeruddin Shah. She said, “I am going to be a part of Masoom 2. Where I will get to work with my father and some truly seasoned actors. I’m very excited about it. No one knows me better than my dad, so he’s going to bring out the best in me. I can’t wait to learn from them. Of course, it’s a little intimidating since I’ll be the youngest on set, but I’m sure they’ll be more than willing to help, teach, and guide me.” Talking about her father, she added, “I’m so lucky to work with my dad. To me, he’s just my little teddy bear, but if I take a step back and look at it objectively, he’s a cinematic genius.”

Kaveri Kapur on nepotism & future goals

Addressing the nepotism debate, Kaveri acknowledged the frustration outsiders feel about opportunities in the film industry. She shared, “I completely understand why people feel frustrated when those from film families seem to have an advantage. If I were in their shoes, I’d feel the same way. But at the same time, nepotism exists in every field—a doctor’s child often becomes a doctor, a lawyer’s child follows the same path. It’s just how the world works.”

Speaking about her artistic aspirations, she continued, “All my life, I’ve wanted to pursue music and writing—just the art itself. It would be foolish not to embrace the opportunities that come my way, especially since music is something I truly love. If acting is my passion and it brings me joy, why shouldn’t I pursue it? And to those calling us ‘nepo babies,’ I’d ask—if they were in our position, with the same opportunities, wouldn’t they take them too? Most probably, they would.”

On the work front, Kaveri Kapur recently made her Bollywood debut with Kunal Kohli’s romantic drama Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story, which premiered on JioHotstar. In the film, she was paired opposite Vardhaan Puri, grandson of the legendary Amrish Puri. Apart from acting, Kaveri is also a talented singer, songwriter, and writer. She has previously released several independent music singles, showcasing her passion for music. Now, she is set to take on a new challenge by working alongside her father, Shekhar Kapur, in his upcoming project, Masoom 2.
