Actress Rhea Chakraborty has penned a note on Instagram urging global leaders to stand up for the women and minorities in Afghanistan as Taliban insurgents took control of all the major cities there. Rhea wrote, “While women around the globe fight for pay parity, women in Afghanistan are being sold – They have become the pay. Heartbroken to see the condition of women and minorities in Afghanistan. Urge the global leaders to stand up for this ! #smashthepatriachy. Women are human too.”

Last year, Rhea Chakraborty was summoned by the Narcotics Control Bureau, in an investigation related to Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. Rhea was photographed in a black t-shirt that read, “Roses are red, violets are blue, Let’s smash patriarchy, Me and you.” She received a lot of support from her own industry for the same.

Meanwhile, several videos from the Kabul airport are going viral, in which people are struggling to get on a plane to leave the country and flee from the militant group-run government. Apart from Rhea Chakraborty, Swara Bhasker, Kangana Ranaut, Armaan Malik, Soni Razdan, Shekhar Kapur and others have also shared social media posts to urge netizens to pray for the people of Afghanistan.

Soni Razdan wrote, “While one country celebrates their Independence another loses theirs … what a world this is.”

Sonu Sood has also sent prayers to Afghanistan.

Swara Bhasker shared a viral video from the Kabul airport and dropped three broken heart emojis. Actor Karan Tacker shared how devastated he was to see the state of women and condemned humanity for putting women in this situation. “Devastated looking at the state of women in Afghanistan, shame on humanity. While the world just sits and watches this in silence,” he wrote.

Rhea will soon be seen on the big screen in Rumy Jafry’s Chehre. This thriller drama features Amitabh Bachchan and Emraan Hashmi in the lead. When the filmmaker was asked if Rhea’s personal life controversy would affect the film in any way, Rumy recently told ETimes, “I don’t think the film will suffer because of Rhea’s personal life controversy. I will admit that I felt it would have affected the film, had it released last year. Everyone knows what a furore the media caused with the whole Sushant Singh Rajput case and Rhea’s arrest. Last year, she was a ‘witch’, a ‘golddigger’ and whatnot; this year she was declared as the ‘most desirable woman’. This shows there has been a change in the perception of people. So, I really don’t feel the film will have an adverse effect because of what happened with Rhea last year”. Chehre is gearing up for a theatrical release on August 27.
