Bawarchi, Mili and Koshish to be remade

Bollywood’s three classic movies from the 70s are about to be remade. The movies from that era hit differently, when we watch it now it only reminds us how much detailing the storyline and movies had. Now, we enter the era of remakes where filmmakers recreate the classics with a twist. Hrishikesh Mukherjee directed the Bollywood classic films Mili and Bawarchi, while Gulzar directed Koshish, which are about to join the remake club.

You must be already aware that Bollywood has been remaking films for decades now. From Umrao Jaan to Agneepath, our film industry ignites the sparks of classics again. It re-tells the story again to the newer generation and allows others to relive it again. Now, Anushree Mehta and Abir Sengupta from Jaadugar Films, in collaboration with Sameer Raj Sippy, the grandson of producer NC Sippy will be remaking the movies. They produced the classics under their company SRS Productions.

About the films Koshish, Bawarchi and Mili

Gulzar directed the movie Koshish, which was released in the year 1972. It portrays the struggles and triumphs of a deaf and mute couple, played by Sanjeev Kumar and Jaya Bachchan. Despite their disabilities, they created a meaningful life together and raised a family.

Talking about the second film, Directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Bawarchi released in 1972. It was a light-hearted family comedy that revolves around a quirky cook named Raghu, played by Rajesh Khanna. Raghu enters a dysfunctional joint family as their new cook and brings about a positive transformation in their lives.

Coming to the third film, Mili was again directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee in 1975. The movie revolves around a girl named Mili, played by Jaya Bachchan, who suffers from a terminal illness. But, has a positive outlook on life. The film also stars Amitabh Bachchan as a cynical and reclusive man who is initially indifferent to Mili’s charms but eventually falls in love with her.

The producers Mehta and Sengupta are ready to make the films. Giving a statement they said, “It is a huge responsibility as ‘Koshish’, ‘Bawarchi’ and ‘Mili’ are celebrated in India and across the globe which have been made by the legendary Gulzar Saab and Hrishi da who have set the standards of filmmaking for generations to come.” According to the statement, the remakes are currently progressing through different stages of development. The production team intends to unveil the cast and crew for these three films in the near future.

The remakes may bring a contemporary touch to the narratives. But, it is also crucial that they maintain the essence of the original films.
