A very humble and grounded personality, Tom Alter lost his battle against cancer last night. He was 67 and had been suffering from cancer for quite some time now. In the past, his son Jamie had revealed to IANS that he was suffering from squamous cell carcinoma, a type of skin cancer. The actor had even got his thumb amputated for the same last year. There were signs of improvement, his son had revealed. But, nothing lasts before destiny and sadly, we lost out on a gem of an actor.
Tom Alter had created a mark not just with his amazing performances on the big screen, but also with his notable work on television and theatre. A proud recipient of the Padma Shri, his demise came as a huge shock to the nation. An Indian actor of American descent, he was a man of few words, someone who was never a part of controversies and had a clean image. Well, as they say good people are called sooner by God than the bad ones, Tom Alter’s death has left a void in the industry which can’t be filled.
