Actor Mamta Kulkarni was involved in a drug case back in 2016 and an FIR was filed against the actor. However, the latest report suggested that the Bombay High Court has struck down the case against Mamta due to lack of evidence. She was involved in the drug trafficking case involving the seizure of Ephedrine worth ₹2,000 crore.
How Mamta Kulkarni was involved in the case?
Back in April 2016, the Thane police raided Avon Lifesciences Ltd, a Solapur-based pharmaceutical company, and arrested at least 14 people. Reportedly, Mamta Kulkarni’s husband Vicky Goswami is considered to be the mastermind of the drug case. The police case revealed that the accused had planned to use ephedrine, a controlled substance often misused to produce the party drug methamphetamine. The ephedrine was intended to be diverted to Kenya, where it would allegedly be used to manufacture meth for sale in the US market.
The chargesheet named five others as wanted accused, including alleged drug lord Vicky Goswami, who is Kulkarni’s partner. According to the Thane police under commissioner, Param Bir Singh, Mamta Kulkarni was also implicated in the racket. Police reported that Kulkarni attended a crucial meeting with Goswami and his associates at Hotel Bliss in Kenya on January 8, 2016.
Furthermore, the fourth and final chargesheet in the case against Goswami and Kulkarni lacked evidence of the meeting. The police mainly depended on the statement of a co-accused made before a magistrate to establish Kulkarni’s involvement. After co-accused Jay Mukhi’s statement was recorded before a magistrate in July 2016, he sought to retract it, alleging that it was made under pressure.
