The wait of the audiences to see Shah Rukh Khan back on screen after over 4 years finally ended on Friday. The Badshah marked his return to the 70 mm in style with the spy action thriller Pathaan. Even with minimalist promotions, the film had been one of the most anticipated releases of the year and it all reflected in the advance bookings of Pathaan at the box office.
Pathaan set to cross opening day records of War and KGF 2 at the box office
By Thursday itself, Pathaan had crossed the number of tickets for War sold in advance bookings. While War had sold 4.10 lacs tickets, Pathaan had already sold 4.19 lacs tickets by then. And according to a report in Box Office India, the box office collection of Pathaan at the national chains (PVR, Inox, Cinepolis) is just Rs 5 crore nett behind War and Rs 7.50 crore nett behind KGF 2 for the first day, before a show has actually started.
Check out a detailed breakdown of collections of Pathaan, War and KGF 2
Pathaan – 14,84,00,000 (Advance as of 2.00 am before release)
KGF2 – 22,21,00,000 (Day One)
War – 19,67,00,000 (Day One)
Pathaan releases in over 5000 screens
War and KGF 2 are the only 2 movies to have had an opening day of more than Rs 50 crore at the box office, and with figures like these, Pathaan seems all set to cross that landmark and create some new records. Pathaan also became the first Hindi film in history to release in over 5000 screens across the country.
The reviews that have been pouring in for the film have been really good. At Bollywood Bubble, we gave the film 3.5 stars out of 5, and a part of the review reads, “Overall, Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham starrer Pathaan is definitely a mass entertainer and ensures you fasten your seatbelts. It surely has BLOCKBUSTER plastered all over it. Pathaan is high on action and it has all the calibre to leave you starstruck. The movie is one of the best action films in Bollywood.”
