Recently, Dharma Productions announced its dream project ‘Brahmastra’ starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles. The movie which will be helmed by Ayan Mukerji will show Ranbir Kapoor as a superhero who will be possessing the superpowers of unleashing fire from his palms. Now, a report in Mid-day suggests that the movie will be made on a whopping budget of Rs 150 Crores. All this insane amount of money so that the movie can also be made in 3D.
Namit Malhotra (founder, executive chairman and global CEO, Prime Focus), who is the co-producer of the movie, says, “We aspire to create something homegrown that can match Hollywood standards. We can’t be penny-pinching with the scale. Hollywood has moved from dramas and rom-coms to big scale films, which makes more money eventually. India too is getting there. We will shoot it the regular way and then convert it into 3D. The visual effects and conversion quality will be superlative.” The movie which also stars Amitabh Bachchan has been conceived as a trilogy. The team, however, is focusing on the first instalment for now which will go on floors next year. Adds Malhotra, “The films will progress from establishing the characters to the protagonist achieving his goal. Ayan’s vision will strike a chord with everyone, from the ages of six to 60. In terms of concept, it doesn’t share any similarities with other Bollywood superhero films, like ‘Krrish’ [2006]. The title itself conveys that the story is rooted in our cultural heritage.”
Although Bahubali was merely presented by Dharma, Brahmastra will be its second film on such a grand scale. We are surely excited for this one, what about you?
