Brands go bananas in ad campaigns with Rahul Bose’s ‘Banana Controversy’

Rahul Bose spiked quite a controversy on the internet when he tweeted about being charged Rs. 422.50 for just a couple of bananas at JW Marriott hotel, Chandigarh. This Banana Moment has snowballed into a meme fest in no time. Even Indian brands have gone bananas. Literally.

Reliance Retail, Nature’s Basket, Amazon Prime, PepsiCo, Pizza Hut and Oyo among others have come up with goofy ads based on this Rahul Bose Moment.

According to reports, the five-star hotel has been fined Rs. 25,000 by the excise and taxation department for violation of section 11 of CGST — illegal collection of tax on an exempted item. Fresh fruits are tax-free items.
