Indo-Australian filmmaker Anupam Sharma’s debut production ‘UnIndian’ is inching close to the day of its release. The film features Aussie cricketer Brett Lee and renowned actress Tannishtha Chatterjee and revolves around the relationship of an Australian teacher and a divorced single mother. A sequence of intense lovemaking in the film has been ordered to be cut short for 65 seconds, by the CBFC.
“It is a beautiful scene where they make love for the first time. At the same time, Tannishtha’s parents are watching a spiritual leader on TV speak about opening your chakras. The music escalates as the sequences set in the two different settings unfold. It is artistically shot but the Indian Censor Board wants it to be cut,” Sharma told a leading publication.
“We have been asked to only show Lee’s side profile and not his back and to remove the spiritual context. That’s like ripping off the film’s heartbeat,” Sharma sighs, pointing out that the film was received with an ‘M’ (mature) certificate in Australia and that an ‘A’ certificate with cuts for a romcom would mean a great loss of audience.” he added.
However, CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani didn’t want to make any comments on it.
Lee was earlier seen in 2009 Hindi film ‘Victory’ where he played himself. He also recorded a single titled ‘You’re The One For Me’ in 2007 with legendary singer Asha Bhosle, which became fairly popular. The ‘UnIndian’ team also visited producer Sajid Nadiadwala’s residence to have a look at the rushes of his upcoming release ‘Dishoom’ and loved it completely. We hear Lee expressed his eagerness to work with the producer as well.
Now that is surely going to be an interesting combination!
