Celina Jaitly: I was in a traumatic relationship with a closeted gay man

Bollywood actress Celina Jaitly after all these years has made a revelation that might come as shock. Celina is making a comeback to the movies with a short film called ‘Season’s Greetings: A Tribute to Rituparno Ghosh’. The late actor and director Rituparno Ghosh was openly gay and was a champion for the LGBTQ+ community. The actress, who is now happily married has revealed that she was in a relationship with a closeted gay man.

Celina Jaitly is an official ambassador of the United Nations program which fights for equal rights for the LGBTQ+ community. Talking about her relationship Celina told Hindustan Times, “A famous gay Kolkata based make-up artist was a mother figure to me in my struggling days as a model there. I closely observed his trials and tribulations as a gay middle-aged man, then as a senior citizen. Incidentally, at the same time, I was in a traumatic relationship with a closeted gay man”.

Celina further added, “At 16 you think prayers and shamans can fix this. Their untimely deaths a few years later made me realise that everyone has the right to life and choose whom they can have a relationship with.”

Celina then worked as an activist for 12 years as an ambassador and now India has also abolished the draconian Section 377, which was discriminatory to the LGBTQ community.

Talking about her sabbatical, Celina says it was one of the best things that happened to her career because during it she was able to turn producer and also work on her talents as a recording artist. The actress not only performed with Sting on Broadway. She also began work on her forthcoming books.
