Mohit Suri and Chetan Bhagat

By now we know that Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor’s upcoming film ‘Half Girlfriend’ directed by Mohit Suri is an adaptation of Chetan Bhagat‘s bestselling novel with the same name. It’s not an easy task to convert an approximately 300 page long story into a three hour long film in a way that would attract the masses. Hence, Mohit Suri has made use of some creative liberty in this one, to be loved by cinema goers.

As per reports, Mohit Suri has made some changes here and there to the story and much to his delight, the writer, Chetan Bhagat willingly gave him permission to make changes in his story.

The director said to a leading daily, “The book was written in English, but the hero cannot converse in that language, so that has been changed. There was also some sexual abuse backstory to Shraddha’s character that I have tweaked. She has a dark past. But the story will concentrate more on the love (between her and Arjun’s character).”

Apart from this, reports also suggested that the book has Chetan Bhagat as the narrator, but in the cinematic version, his role has been cut. It is like the author has been removed from his own story, but for good. Mohit stated that Chetan was quite supportive when he came to know about this.

All’s well so far and now we look forward to the trailer. (Also Read: WOW! Did you know ‘Half Girlfriend’ is the first Indian film to be shot in the UN headquarters?)
