Amidst the ongoing protest throughout the country against the Citizenship Amendment Act, the makers of Deepika Padukone and Vikrant Massey starrer ‘Chhappak’ have decided to not to promote their film in Delhi.

In a statement, Deepika and director Meghna Gulzar had said that it would be insensitive on their part to promote their upcoming film in Delhi.

On December 15, Delhi witnessed an outrage by the students over the Citizenship Amendment Act. Now considering the situation, the makers of ‘Chhapaak’ will refrain from promoting their film in the Capital. As per a report in Hindustan Times, the makers, in a statement said, “We believe that it will be insensitive on our part to promote our film at a time when the nation and the city are going through an emotional upheaval and unrest. We pray for peace and harmony and regret the inconvenience caused by our absence but we hope you will understand.”

‘Chhapaak’ is inspired by the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Aggarwal. The film will chronicle the story of trauma and triumph of the survivor. With this film, Deepika will be making her production debut. Produced by Fox Star Studios, Deepika and Meghna Gulzar, ‘Chhapaak’ will hit the silver screens on January 10.
