We can safely say, whatever superstar Aamir Khan touches turns into gold. The actor’s last release ‘Dangal’ created a storm at the box office in China and went on to set many records. Likewise, the film has done great business in India too. Aamir’s portrayal of wrestler turned coach Mahavir Singh Phogat was well received and undoubtedly it is one of the best performances delivered by the actor. But, not many would be aware that Aamir Khan, who is better known for taking risks while selecting his roles and the movies he does was scared of losing stardom when he was offered this role of Mahavir Singh Phogat in ‘Dangal’. And the movie was almost on the verge of hitting our screens ten years later, from now. The superstar himself opened up about the same.
Recently, during the promotions of his upcoming film ‘Secret Superstar’, Aamir chose to spoke about this. He said, “I do get scared (of losing stardom). When I heard the story of ‘Dangal’, I thought I have to do this film. But then I thought that I have just done ‘Dhoom 3’ and ‘PK’, and have six-packs and star image. If I will do this film (‘Dangal’), then I will become old and fat. What my fans will think? I hope I don’t lose my fan following.” [sic] (Also Check: Watch: Aamir Khan and Zaira Wasim reach Delhi to promote ‘Secret Superstar’)
“Mahavir is a 55-year-old in the film. I am 52. So, there is less difference between us. We are too close. But fans don’t know that as they see me as 30-year-old. So, I told the director that I liked the film and I will do it after 10 years when I will be old. They agreed to that too. But the story of the film couldn’t leave my mind. So, I decided that I should do it and not get afraid of anything,” added the actor. [sic]
Well, we are glad that we didn’t have to wait for ten years (as stated by Aamir Khan) to experience this brilliant cinematic gem on big screen.
‘Dangal’ directed by Nitesh Tiwari starred Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra, Sakshi Tanwar, Zaira Wasim and Suhani Bhatnagar playing the pivotal roles.
Currently, Aamir Khan is gearing up for the release of ‘Secret Superstar’ which stars Zaira Wasim (yet again) playing the title role. The film is slated to release on October 19, 2017.
