She likes to pick roles that will drive her to challenge herself and that’s the sole reason why Deepika Padukone is beyond a star. After picking some intense roles like Mastani in ‘Bajirao Mastani’, Rani Padmavati in ‘Padmavaat’ and Malti in ‘Chhapaak’, Deepika is all set to hone her skills with her next ambitious project which is based on Draupadi, a pivotal character from Mahabharat.
Deepika’s film on Mahabharat will be seen through the eyes of Draupadi and it will be a fresh take on the mythological tale. However, the most interesting part is why is Deepika so keen to tell the story of Draupadi?
A very well placed source reveals, “Mahabharat is a story that many filmmakers want to make but Deepika is not telling it because it is a female character but it happens to be an extremely underrated one. She has been an integral part of that journey that has not come to the fore. Deepika doesn’t want to bring the female angle to it.”
However, whether the film will be set in modern time or set in a different era is yet to be decided.

The source further added, “Deepika is in the lookout of the right director and it will be a mutual decision by her and the director how to tell the story. The idea was to tell the story in the modern version but it is too early to give out anything.”
Besides Deepika, even Aamir Khan is keen to make a film on Mahabharat but it seems that will be said through a male perspective.
Meantime, Deepika is busy promoting her upcoming film ‘Chhapaak’. The film is based on Laxmi Aggarwal, an acid attack survivor and is scheduled to hit the screens on January 10, 2020.
