Deepika Padukone opens up about dealing with insecurities from insiders in Bollywood: Nepotism existed then and it exists now

Deepika Padukone marked her Bollywood debut with Om Shanti Om, a movie that was immensely loved before, and is still loved now. After Om Shanti Om, Deepika Padukone continued to deliver some of the most engaging movies and rose to the top of her entertainment career. From theron, she has also worked in Hollywood movies and is now a global star. Recently, in an interview, Deepika opened up about the time when she was asked to move to Paris or Milan because she belonged there.

Deepika Padukone opens up about her modelling days

Deepika Padukone interacted with Vogue where she opened up about the initial days of her career and spoke up about her modelling days. Speaking about it, Deepika said, “Early on in my modelling career, I had an offer to move overseas and all of the fashion gurus in India said, ‘You shouldn’t be here, you should be in Paris, New York or Milan,’ and I was like, ‘No, those places are not my home. India is home.’” She also added, “Why do I need to move with bag and baggage to have a global impact?”

Not only this, the Pathaan actress also shared how she dealt with the insecurities of insiders in Bollywood. Responding to this, Deepika said that she had no choice. She said, “When you were an outsider 15 or 20 years ago, there was no other option. It’s an uphill task for any individual trying to make a mark in a field or profession that their parents don’t come from. The fact that we’ve started to articulate things like nepotism is a new trend. It existed then, it exists now and it will continue to exist. That was my reality.”

Deepika also shared that she had many things to deal with, both personally and professionally. She shared that she had to figure out her meals, and transport and had to lug her own bags. Deepika shared that she never thought of it as a burden. She also looked back at those days and told herself that, “Not bad, girl! You did this and you did it on your own.”
