Recently, Deepika Padukone appeared at a book launch for Lakshmi Nambiar, Reema Gupta and Sarada Akkineni’s ‘The Dot That Went For A Walk’. At the event, the ‘Padmaavat’ actress spoke at length on various aspects like payment in the industry as per gender. Once, she turned down a film because she was paid less than the male actor. Also, she spoke on the failure of films of Khans (Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan).
Year 2018 proved that it’s not the only big star that makes a movie hit, but at the end of the day it’s the content and script that is the king. Despite having big stars like Aamir Khan in ‘Thugs Of Hindostan’, Salman Khan in ‘Race 3’, and Shah Rukh Khan in ‘Zero’, these movies were not received well by the audiences and critics and didn’t do well at the ticket window. Whereas movies like ‘Andhadhun’, ‘Stree’ and ‘Badhaai Ho’ among others were loved by the critics and audiences (they also did well at the box office).
While talking about the failure of Khans’ movies last year, Deepika said, “It’s a different thing that the films the Khans did, didn’t work. But say, there was a film like ‘Andhadhun’ that was led by Ayushmann. So, I think it really boils down to the script itself. I don’t think you can blindly say that so and so is in the film, so let’s go and watch. Gone are the days when you just had big stars on a film poster and that film worked.”

On the work front, Deepika will be seen in acid survivor Laxmi Agarwal’s biopic ‘Chhapaak’. The movie will be directed by ‘Raazi’ fame Meghna Gulzar.
