Deepika Padukone confirms joining hubby Ranveer Singh’s ’83’ as Kapil Dev’s wife

Deepika Padukone has been making headlines for taking up a hard hitting subject like ‘Chhapaak’ for her debut production venture. The first look of the film made people pour in praises from all corners. The leggy lass has wrapped up the shooting of the film since and now, she is all geared up to take up her next project. There had been speculations that she would be starring as Kapil Dev’s wife in Ranveer Singh starrer ’83’ and now, finally DP has confirmed the development.

While talking to Bombay Times recently, Deepika opened up about how the script was an instant ‘yes’ from her side. “I am so glad that Kabir (Khan) came to me with it. This happened a couple of months ago when he was still casting the boys for the film. It’s just that I was busy with ‘Chhappak’ and we were waiting for the right moment to make the announcement,” she confirmed.

So will Deepika meet Kapil Dev’s wife Romi to get into the skin of the character? “There isn’t a lot of material available on her. I have met her a few times, including our wedding reception, and I have interacted with her socially over the years. I am also referring to whatever material the director’s team has sent across to me. My parents have known their family for many years. So, I feel I know her and hope that she is proud and happy with the film. I intend to connect and spend some time with her before I start filming to be able to understand her perspective better,” said Deepika while talking to Bombay Times.

While it’s true that not much is known about Romi, the most striking thing about her is her chic boy-cut hairdo. Will Deepika go ahead and chop off her locks to get the look perfect as Romi? “Well, you will have to wait and watch!” laughed off Deepika.
