Dia Mirza on people’s reaction post divorce with Sahil Sangha: The gaze is empathetic and sometimes pitiful

Dia Mirza and Sahil Sangha had left everyone shocked when they announced their separation last year. The two were together for 11 long years and married for five years. Dia recently spoke about people’s reaction over their separation. The ‘Thappad’ actress said that people look at her with pitiful eyes.

In an interview with Pinkvilla, Dia talking about her separation with Sahil said, “It still amuses me. You are moving in circles where people are educated but they still feel a sense of sadness. There’s definitely a sense of empathy as well. So the gaze is not necessarily critical, it’s empathetic and sometimes even pitiful.”

But not all reactions are sad as Dia said that some even admire her. “It’s also sometimes awe and admiration. Sometimes, people ask me how I am so strong and how do I get up and go to work like this? I just want to tell them I will find my way and I hope you’ll find yours,” she added.

Dia believes that some people feel divorce is an excuse to not compromise. Yes, in life, you have to adapt and compromise. But she reasoned that the questions is – when does it stop? How much is too much, how less is too little? That’s a personal choice.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Dia was recently seen in ‘Thappad’ starring alongside Taapsee Pannu and Pavail Gulati. The movie seems to be doing really well at the box office.
