One of the cult classics and the most loved movie Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein has been re-released recently and fans just couldn’t calm down. The movie has garnered the utmost love from all age groups and is still considered to be their favourite film. But did you know that the movie didn’t work well at the box office initially and received a lot of harsh responses? Recalling the feeling, Dia Mirza felt miserable when RHTDM didn’t work during the time it was released.
Mirza recalls the initial reception of RHTDM and said, “It was cruel, the experience of dealing with it as a newcomer.”

“It was also a time when the industry and media judged a person by their success or failure. There was so much anticipation, so much effort put into introducing me to the industry. It felt very personal. I felt I had let everybody down, I was miserable. I remember being dropped from several films I had been signed for.” She added, “I was all of 19, I had no understanding of how the industry works. There were very harsh lessons one had to learn quickly.”
Over the years, Dia Mirza has seen how Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein has become a cult classic. The actor was surprised to see love from all age groups who have watched the films at different times. “It has insane repeat viewing viewership. I have seen a lot of fans say it’s time to show the film the love it didn’t get in its first round.“
Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein was released in 2001, marking the debut film for Dia Mirza and R Madhavan ‘s official Bollywood debut film. RHTDM was a remake of the director’s own Tamil film Minnale.
