Both Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Priyanka Chopra are self-made stars, who are pillars in their own league. While Nawazuddin is known for his earthy roles which he nails with his raw charisma, Priyanka has slowly and steadily carved a path of her own, and is now making a name for herself in Hollywood. We are certainly proud of both of them. However, recently, Nawaz made an appearance in ‘Aap Ki Adalat’, and in the episode he made a statement on Hollywood ventures of Bollywood stars. He said that the rate at which stars applaud their stints in Hollywood, seems like they have an inferiority complex about themselves and their industry i.e. Bollywood. That got us thinking, was he taking a dig at Priyanka, indirectly?
He said, “I do not know why there is an inferiority complex among us… Everybody here wants to work in Hollywood and become big. I can’t understand why we have this complex. When we watch films from a powerful country, we feel somewhat inferior. We think our films are not up to their level, but at present, we should feel proud of our films. We are making films with very good content here.” (Also Read: Nawazuddin on intimate scenes in ‘Babumoshai Bandookbaaz’: My wife was upset with me)
Nawaz also went on to say that he is the highest paid ‘actor’ in the industry, “I am the highest paid actor in industry as far as acting is concerned. I did not have to ask. They (filmmakers) themselves started paying me this.”
Well, whatever his intentions may have been, but this man surely does not mince his words. We wonder what Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, and other Bollywood stars who have been to Hollywood, would say about this.
The actor is geared up for his soon-to-release movie ‘Babumoshai Bandookbaaz’. The movie faced quite a tough time with the CBFC, but was thankfully cleared with 8 minor cuts by the FCAT. Speaking on it, he said, “The tribunal is a third party organisation, and it is much more liberal. The tribunal works independently and it has no connection with the CBFC, so the 1952 guidelines don’t apply to them. They are more liberal in their approach, and free from ‘babudom’. They see the film with a very neutral point of view. They are actually doing what CBFC is supposed to do at the first place. They reprimanded the CBFC for giving 58 cuts in an adult film.”
‘Babumoshai Bandookbaaz’ directed by Kushan Nandy is slated for release on August 25, 2017.
