The Hindi film industry has been going through a dry spell ever since the theatres reopened after the pandemic. There have been a few films here and there that have worked well, including Gangubai Kathiawadi, The Kashmir Files and most recently Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, but the overall performance from Hindi films has been underwhelming. The coming Friday, Raj Mehta directed JugJugg Jeeyo is all set to hit the theatres and people are expecting it to break this dry run at the box office.

JugJugg Jeeyo boasts of a big ensemble cast that includes Varun Dhawan, Kiara Advani, Neetu Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Maniesh Paul and Prajakta Koli, and that alone makes it quite an intriguing watch. Apart from that, the trailer of the film has received so much love from all over and even its quirky title has found a lot of fans. But as it turns out, the film was originally named something else.

During the media interactions for JugJugg Jeeyo promotions, director Raj Mehta spilled the beans about who came up with the film’s current title while also revealing what it was originally called. “It was Karan’s (Karan Johar) suggestion absolutely. He just read the script and said that this is the title for your film. A little trivia, the film was actually called Happy Anniversary before this. But we felt that the film is so desi in its essence, it’s so mitti se juda hua film, so we felt that JugJugg Jeeyo is actually a very relevant title for it. Karan came up with it and we all went with it,” he revealed.

Talking of Karan Johar, the filmmaker is a maverick when it comes to large-scale family dramas that are commercial entertainers. Even though he loved Raj’s JugJugg Jeeyo when he first saw it, the Good Newwz director was indeed quite anxious to show Karan his work. Raj shared, “I was so nervous. The thing was that he knew the script, but yes, when you show a family drama to Karan Johar, it’s like I can’t even tell you the feeling I had. When he was watching the film, I was standing outside. I was listening through the door kaunsa scene chal raha hai. It was nerve-wracking for sure but I am really happy that when he stepped out, he said that he really liked the film and he hugged me. So, it was great.”

There are high expectations from JugJugg Jeeyo as Raj’s last film Good Newwz did wonders critically and commercially, and going by the looks of the trailer and songs till now, this one is going to be a typical Bollywood film that the audience loves.
