Did you know Neetu Kapoor rejected Jaya Bachchan’s role in Kal Ho Naa Ho? Actress reveals WHY

Nikkhil Advani’s debut directorial Kal Ho Naa Ho is one the most loved cult classic films of Hindi cinema. Over the years, the love for the 2003 film has just grown. The characters played by Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Saif Ali Khan and Jaya Bachchan in the film have become iconic and a part of Indian cinematic history. While it is a common knowledge that Kareena Kapoor was the fist choice for the role that was eventually played by Preity, turns out that even Jaya Bachchan’s role was initially offered to someone else.

Neetu Kapoor, who is currently on a promotional spree for her upcoming release JugJugg Jeeyo, recently opened up on being offered the role of Jennifer in Kal Ho Naa Ho, which was eventually played by Jaya Bachchan. When asked if the reports were true, she said yes, while revealing the reason why she said no to the film. She shared, “It’s not that I didn’t want to act, it was also that I wasn’t into that frame of mind. My husband never asked me not to work, but he was a very possessive man. He wanted me to be home and main baahar bhi jati thi na, he would go crazy ke kahaan ja rahe ho, when will you come. (Laughs) He used to get very insecure. So, for me to leave my husband and go for shoot, I could not imagine. So, I would always put it down ki nahi karna, bechara pareshan ho jayega. That’s why I never worked. It’s not that he told me not to. I could have worked if I asked him, he wouldn’t have said no. But I knew that man would have been miserable for two months. Wo 2 drink peeta tha to ab 4 peeyega. (Laughs)”

The veteran actress is making an acting comeback after almost close to a decade. Her last onscreen outing was the 2013 release Besharam alongside husband Rishi Kapoor and son Ranbir Kapoor. Next Friday, she will be seen alongside Anil Kapoor, Varun Dhawan and Kiara Advani in JugJugg Jeeyo and during the media interactions, Neetu Kapoor revealed that she has signed a web show as well that she will begin shooting for in October.
