The fourth episode of The Invincibles Season 2 is here and it sees yesteryear villain Prem Chopra gracing the couch. While interacting with host, actor-filmmaker Arbaaz Khan, the ‘Bobby’ actor got candid about many things from the bygone years. During the chat, the actor opened up about Raj Kapoor’s 1973 film starring Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia and why he was apprehensive about saying yes to it.
Prem Chopra on working with Raj Kapoor in Bobby
Talking about working with Raj Kapoor in Bobby, Prem Chopra says, “Woh kamaal ho gaya tha. Bobby ke pehle jab Raj saab mile mujhe party mein (usne bola), ‘Mere agle picture mein tum kaam kar rahe ho’. Maine kaha, ‘Isse badi baat ky aho sakti, Why not’. (It was amazing. Before I said yes to Bobby, Raj Kapoor met me during a party and said he wanted me in his next film. I said, ‘It’s a huge deal. Why not.’)”
Adding that details of the role were kept under wraps for a long time, Prem Chopra got candid on how his infamous dialogue ‘Prem naam hai mera, Prem Chopra’ came to be. He said, “Toh main pad ke dhekta hu (script) ki Chintu (Rishi Kapoor) and Dimple Kapadia aate hai aur main ladki ha haath pakad leta hu. Usme ek hi dialogue bolna tha, ‘Prem. Prem naam hai mera. prem Chopra.’ Main toh hairaan tha jab usne mujhe bola ki puri picture mein mera same dialogue that. (When I read the script I got to know Rishi and Dimple would be running and I had to catch Kapadia and introduce myself with the iconic dialogue. I was shocked when I told this was my only dialogue in the film.)”
Prem on reservations about saying yes to his iconic Bobby role
Talking about the reservations he had when saying yes to this iconic role, the veteran actors said, “Reservations thi. Main bataya ki aaj kaal joh main kaam kar raha hu Yash Chopra ya P Chopra saab ke saath toh woh mujhe barabar ke role de rahe hai aur yeh na ho ki kal woh bhu mujhe bole ki guest appearance kare.” He added that he was motivated to say yes to the film as he was told the dialogue would make him famous if the film was a hit. “(I was apprehensive of doing the part as I had only 1 dialogue and feared other filmmakers – who were giving me meaty roles, would also opt to give me 1-2 dialogues only.)
