Did you know Ranveer Singh was first approached for Shahid Kapoor starrer Kabir Singh? Sandeep Reddy Vanga reveals he REJECTED it

Shahid Kapoor starrer Kabir Singh was one of the blockbuster movies of 2019. The movie has grossed Rs 379.02 crore at the worldwide box office whereas Kabir Singh collected Rs Rs 278.24 crore. But did you know that Ranveer Singh was first approached for Kabir Singh before Shahid Kapoor? That’s right! While promoting Ranbir Kapoor starrer Animal, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga revealed that he had pressure to do a remake of Allu Arjun. However, he wanted to work with Ranveer Singh but he rejected Kabir Singh, citing it was too dark.

The director told iDream Media, “I was continuously getting calls from Mumbai to do the remake. First, it was pitched to Ranveer Singh. I wanted to do it with him. But finally, he decided he would not do it because it was too dark for him at that time.” After Ranveer Singh rejected Kabir Singh, Sandeep was keen on working with Shahid Kapoor. Vanga said people were sceptical with Shahid coming on board due to his box office records.

Sandeep said, “Shahid’s track record was a concern; none of his solo films had done Rs 100 crore then, his highest was Rs 65 crore. They used to say Rs 55 crore, Rs 65 crore is the kind of business Telugu movies do. ‘Why are you doing it with this guy? If it was Ranveer, the box office would be higher’. But I was always sure about Shahid, he’s a fantastic actor.“

Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Animal also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol. The movie will be released on December 1 alongside Vicky Kaushal starrer Sam Bahadur.
