Former producer-director and current censor board chief Pahlaj Nihalani often makes headlines for the scenes he snips from Bollywood films. But this time, he is bowled over by a Hollywood star. We all know that James Bond star Pierce Brosnan is the new brand ambassador for a pan masala brand. And CBFC chief, Pahlaj Nihalani is finding it difficult to believe that the Hollywood actor is endorsing such a product.
Nihalani said, “I haven’t seen the ad. But it is very difficult to believe Pierce Brosnan has done this. Money can hardly be a criteria when you’re selling death to people. However, he has chosen to do what he has done. But there is no way we can certify the ad. All paan masala, tobacco, alcohol ads are automatically and unconditionally banned.”
He further added, “I repeat, all paan masala ads are banned by the government on all public platforms. So what does Mr Brosnan hope to achieve by doing this ad?”

The CBFC chief also stated that any ad that uses a brand name associated with alcohol, tobacco or pan masala is strictly banned. Even the “club soda” ads featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan are prohibited from being telecast on national television.
