Dil Chahta Hai: Farhan Akhtar reveals he would have scrapped the film if THIS actress had rejected it

Can you believe Dil Chahta Hai has completed 20 years of its release? Yes, it’s been two decades since the beautiful and one of the most celebrated films from Farhan Akhtar’s career hit the marquee. The film revolving around the friendship of its three lead actors Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Akshaye Khanna became a cult classic and is hands down one of the best films to come out of Bollywood.

As Dil Chahta Hai completed 20 years, Farhan, who made his directorial debut with this film, penned heartfelt notes for the film’s cast and crew. He thanked the lead actors for believing in first-time writer-director and also revealed that had Dimple Kapadia rejected his film, he would probably have had to scrap the film.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Farhan thanked Dimple for playing Tara in Dil Chahta Hai. “I think if you had said no, I’d probably have had to scrap making the film. Tara was written for you and thank my lucky stars that you said yes. Forever grateful. #DimpleKapadia #20YearsOfDilChahtaHai(sic),” Farhan wrote.

Expressing his gratitude towards Aamir, Akshaye and Saif the filmmaker wrote, “Ya toh dosti gehri thi ya ye photo 3D thi.. thank you Aamir, Saif & Akshaye for your belief in the script, in a first time writer/director & for bringing Akash, Sameer & Sid to life in your own uniquely amazing way. Love you guys. #20YearsOfDilChahtaHai(sic).”

Farhan also revealed that Preity Zinta had agreed to do the film even before the final draft. Thanking the actress for showing faith in him, Farhan tweeted, “It could only be you @realpreityzinta as Shalini.. so thank you for saying yes way before a final draft and anyone else being cast .. your faith meant so much to me(sic).”

Dil Chahta Hai has given us all several valuable life lessons and it will continue to enjoy its place in cinephile’s hearts for years to come.
