‘Dil Ko Maine Di Kasam’: Kumaar opens up on his new song and Asim Riaz-Himanshi Khurana’s sizzling chemistry in it

After giving some memorable and chartbuster songs like ‘Baby Doll’, ‘Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan’, ‘Sooraj Dooba Hain’, and the most recent ‘Ghungroo’, lyricist Kumaar is back with yet another romantic and hit track ‘Dil Ko Maine Di Kasam’. The romantic track produced by T-Series features the hit jodi of Himanshi Khurana and Asim Riaz. Arijit Singh has crooned it and Amaal Mallik has composed it. The romantic track featuring two rebellious lovers is currently trending and has received more than 25 million views on YouTube.

In an exclusive interaction with Bollywood Bubble, Kumaar opened up about what makes this song different from others and how star power is also important to make a song reach its audience.

With ‘Dil Ko Maine Di Kasam’, Kumaar is collaborating with Amaal and Arijit yet again after delivering hits like ‘Sooraj Dooba Hai’ and ‘Soch Na Sake’ and several others. So I asked if he thinks there’s something special about their combination and he reverts, “It’s just organic and rest is by god’s grace. When Amaal composes a song he takes his time. And then we have Arijit’s voice, my lyrics and it just clicks. Rest its the audience who makes the song a hit.”

When asked if he was given any brief before writing the lyrics of ‘Dil Ko Maine Di Kasam’, Kumaar has an interesting story to share. “No I wasn’t given any such brief. The opening line ‘Dil ko maine di kasam na dhadke tere bina, dhadke toh sari zindagi, yeh tadpe tere bina’ came to me when I had just entered the industry. During that time I was influenced by the 90s song and then two lines song used to work a lot. So I had written the mukhda back then. Later while working with Amaal on ‘Hero'(2015), I shared this mukhda with him and he composed the song. Then we shared it with Bhushan (Kumar). He liked it a lot but back then the song couldn’t be used into any film or project. So finally it was now when Bhushan ji felt this song should be released,” he shared.

Revealing why this song is different from others, he says, “Two lines meter has been used after a very long time. So in this track, the entire mukhda is the hook line. If you sing the song, you will sing the entire mukhda and not just one or two word. So that’s the speciality of this song.”

Most of Kumaar’s hit songs are sung by Arijit when I pointed that out, he smiled and said, “Sometimes some combinations just click, in my case most of my hit songs are sung by Arijit so I think it’s by god’s grace.”

Sharing his views on if star power matters to make a song hit, Kumaar says, “Of course it does. Look at Asim and Himanshi. People like them, they have a huge fan following. They have been cast in the song because they perfectly fit the bill. If the song goes through them then it automatically reaches its audience. So everyone contributes their own talent into making a song hit. Even if you take ‘Ghungroo’s example, in that Hrithik Roshan has danced so effortlessly that forget the song everyone was just amazed by him. So people love to see stars and then the songs receive appreciation.”

Commenting on Asim -Himanshi’s chemistry, the lyricist further shares, “They are too good and have performed very well. Even the track is great. So its sone pe suhaga. Arijit ke bhi fans hain aur Amaal ke bhi..so sab milke gaane ke bhi fan ho gaye hain.”
