Diljit Dosanjh admits he wasn’t a ‘deserving candidate’ to perform at Coachella; feels it was ‘God’s will’

Diljit Dosanjh made history last year when he performed at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. The singer-actor was part of the day 2 line-up of the first weekend and performed in an all-black traditional Punjabi attire paired with sneakers. His second performance at the concert saw him dressed in a white traditional ensemble and setting the stage on fire with an electrifying performance.

A year later, he is now reflecting on the performance. During a recent interaction, Diljit Dosanjh claimed he wasn’t deserving of the performance.

During a recent interaction with Ranveer Allahbadia on the show ‘The Ranveer Show,’ Diljit Dosanjh opened up about Coachella. The ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ actor said that he considers his talent to be very limited and is grateful for the same.

Talking about performing at Coachella, Diljit said in Hindi, “I wasn’t a deserving candidate. I feel so… It was God’s will. I knew it was big and for the first time, someone from India was going to perform there. It was a huge deal.” The singer-actor added that while performing at Coachella wasn’t his dream, it definitely was on his wish list.

Dosanjh continued, “I feel like I’m not that great a musician, but I end up getting good opportunities. I haven’t learnt acting from anywhere, yet I’m working with Imtiaz Ali. I had never imagined I’d do a film with him. Maybe it happened because of Chamkila. He gave me that chance. Imtiaz Ali signing Diljit Dosanjh isn’t necessary. There are so many others whom he can hire.”

Diljit Dosanjh Projects

Diljit was last seen on the big screen as Customs Officer Jaiveer Singh Rathore in last week’s release Crew. Also starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Tabu and Kriti Sanon, the film saw the singer romancing the latter. He will soon be seen as musician Amar Singh Chamkila in Imtiaz Ali’s biographical drama based on his life. The film – starring Parineeti Chopra as his wife, premiere on Netflix on April 12, 2024.
