Taking offence is definitely one of the most favourite hobbies in India. On social media, every day, you will see netizens demanding a boycott of one or the other thing. Nothing out there seems to be a non-controversial topic.
Divya Dutta, who had lent her voice to the recent Tanishq ad, has reacted to it being withdrawn by the company. Yes, the ad was withdrawn after facing backlash on social media as trolls accused it of promoting love jihad.
For the unversed, jewellery brand Tanishq recently had unveiled an ad in which a Muslim family was shown celebrating the baby shower of their Hindu daughter-in-law in a traditional South Indian way. Though the ad promoted communal harmony, however a section of netizens wasted no time in demanding its ban and accusing it of promoting love jihad. Following the backlash, the brand decided to withdraw the advertisement.
Divya, whose voice features in this ad, has said that it’s sad that the company has withdrawn it. Reacting on the removal of the ad, Divya tweeted, “Yes, it’s my voice. It’s sad its taken off air. I loved it.”

However, a troll said that they have nothing against Divya and its the ad that they are offended with. Replying to him, the actress wrote, “But sir don’t we all promote brotherhood?? We as India are all about that. That’s our soul sir. Unity in diversity bachpan mein sunte the. Aise to kitne ads hote the. Koi kuch nai kehta tha.. par chalein sabke apne vichar(sic)”

Citing reasons why they removed the ad, Tanishq issued a statement that reads, “This film has stimulated divergent and severe reactions, contrary to its very objective. We are deeply saddened with the inadvertent stirring of emotions and withdraw this film keeping in mind the hurt sentiments and well being of our employees, partners and store staff.”

This advert is wrong on many levels, Hindu bahu is living with the family for significant amount of time but acceptance happens only when she is carrying their heir. So what is she just a set of ovaries? This advert does not only promote love-jihad but also sexism #tanishq
