Ehsaan Noorani, of music composer trio, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, feels the Hindi music industry is dominated by Bollywood songs.
The 52-year-old musician, who is currently judging the English music reality show “The Stage”, says the culture for pop songs and private albums no more exists in India.
“The Hindi music industry is ruled by Bollywood. Music is backed by movies here. Earlier there was culture of Indie-pop songs, singers like Baba Sehgal, Alisha Chinoy, Lucky Ali, Adnan Sami but today they have dwindled,” Ehsaan told PTI in an interview here.
“They used to come up with their own songs or album but today they are not seen. There is market for it. There should be a financial backing for such albums. We need corporate backing,” he added.
According to the composer, “The Stage”,is a visionary creation to bring out the English music talent in the country.
“We have had local singing reality shows but there was no singing show in English here. I felt it was a different concept, it is a different format hence I decided to come on board for it.”
Ehsaan is confident about the acceptance of the show and wishes to support pure talent through it.
“We have audience listening to English music so there is market for it. We are judging the show purely on basis of talent. There is really good talent on the show. For example there is a boy from Banaras who sings beautifully,” he said.
To be hosted by model-anchor Shibani Dandekar, “The Stage” also has singer-composer Vishal Dadlani, singer-actress Monica Dogra as well as Devraj Sanyal, managing director and CEO at Universal Music Group, South Asia, as the jury member.
The show will be telecasted on Colors Infinity.
Apart from the show, Ehsaan has an interesting slate of upcoming films as a composer with his musical trio.
“We are excited about “Mirziya”, “Baar Baar Dekho”, “Rock On 2” and a film with Hrithik Roshan. We would make Shraddha Kapoor sing in “Rock On 2″, she is a good singer,” he added.
