Producer and ALT Balaji platform owner Ektaa Kapoor and her mother Shobha Kapoor recently made the headlines as the duo were booked under the POCSO Act owing to an obscene scene in their series Gandii Baat. Reportedly, an episode of season 6 of the web series featured an obscene scene involving a minor girl.
They ALTBalaji has released a statement where they stated that the show was made “fully compliant with all applicable laws including the POSCO Act ”
Ekta Kapoor, Shobha Kapoor comment on POCSO case
ALTBalaji took to their Instagram handle last night and released a statement with regards to the POSCO accusation and Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor’s involvement in it. Their statement read, “With reference to various media reports Regarding the web series -“Gandi Baat”, ALT Digital Media Entertainment LTD. (“Company”) hereby clarifies that it is fully compliant with all applicable laws including the POSCO Act and any references to engagement of minors by the company is entirely incorrect.”
The statement continued, “It is further clarified that Mrs.Shobha Kapoor and m=Ms.Ektaa R Kapoor are not involved in the day to day operations of the company and the same are managed by separate teams, Including its content strategy The company has complete faith in the judiciary and is fully co-operating with the authorities in the investigation. Since the matter is sub-judice, the company refrains from commenting in detail.”
According to Mumbai Police, a case has been registered against Balaji Telefilm Limited, Ektaa R Kapoor and her mother, Shobha Kapoor, at MHB police station in Mumbai under sections 295-A of IPC, IT Act and sections 13 and 15 (using a minor for pornographic purposes) of the POCSO Act. On Monday, the Mumbai Police interrogated the mother-daughter duo and have asked them to appear for further questioning on October 24. The police has also sought information about the actors working in the series. They will reportedly also record the statement of the actors and director of the film.
